Remembrance Day 2011

World War I officially ended on the eleventh hour on the eleventh day on the eleventh month, 1918 - Armistice Day. The act of remembrance, a Two Minute Silence, began on the anniversary of Armistice Day in 1919. At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the nation paused to remember the fallen. Lymm was no exception. The village centre came to a stand still as businesses closed and local residents, one and all, paid their respects with Two Minutes Silence.

Sunday morning saw a fantastic turn out of people wanting to pay their respect. Led by members of Lymm & District Royal British Legion the procession left Davies Way car park on its way to the recently cleaned Lymm War Memorial at St Marys Church. With everyone deep in their own personal thoughts a Remembrance Day Service was held before everyone returned to the Lymm Royal British Legion where memories were shared and stories were told. The whole event was captured on camera by Joanne Bolton (a very keen amateur photographer) with some absolutely stunning photographs. Thank you Joanne for kindly sharing your wonderful images for all to see (please keep them coming). The afternoon slowly drew to a close with everyone enjoying a buffet courtesy of Lymm.com.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them."

A pleasant surprise for a Kiwi 'Home' Bird

Have a piece of home with you, no matter where you are in the world

Following on from the success of Lymm.com’s very own recently launched postcard, we were absolutely delighted when we received the following email from Daniel Howarth all the way from New Zealand. Having grown up in Lymm throughout his childhood, he was thrilled when his mother sent him our Lymm.com postcard. Read on for his lovely email that he sent us in reply. Thanks Daniel, glad you like it!

Message from Daniel in New Zealand

Dear Lymm.com

I have received a Lymm postcard from my mother, who lives next to the Lymm Hotel. Having been brought up in Lymm, when I try to describe the area I simply say - a picture postcard village.

The Lymm.com postcard showed a wonderful array of village life in Lymm, showing off its multitude of colours and personalities.

The 11368 miles between my childhood home and my current home of Auckland, New Zealand, may culminate in being 'only a day away', but a small simple wonderful gestures like this, makes me feel that much closer.

From spring time in the southern hemisphere, I wish all of Lymm, my best wishes.

Arohanui (Much love in Maori)

Daniel Howarth
Son of Julia and Bernard Howarth.

Where in the World are you?

Here at Lymm.com, we would love to hear about where else the Lymm.com postcard has ventured to! Email us at visitors@lymm.com with your details and whereabouts in the World you’re writing from and we’ll post on the site for everyone to see!
