At Cotebrook House

Grab your picnic baskets and blankets, and prepare yourself for a fabulous afternoon of music and entertainment! On Sunday 5th September, Cotebrook House will be hosting their very own Musical Extravaganza in their stunning surrounding grounds. Beginning at 2:30pm till 5.00pm, it’s a full afternoon of chilling out and socialising to a buzzing beat. So pack up your picnic and come get involved.

The Line Up

They’ve got some fantastic acts lined up for the event! ‘Manchester Reed Trio’ are a very talented group of ladies comprising of Bethan on the oboe, Rachel on clarinet and Sarah on the bassoon, bringing a varied and sonorous sound. They perform a wide selection of arrangements, creating diversity in their act and a choice of performances to suit everyone’s mood. There will also be performances from the band ‘Two’s Company’ and several other local artists and singers.

So head over to Cotebrook House on Sunday 5th September at 2:30pm, and join in the picnic party! Tickets cost £5 for adults and £2.50 for children.

The B Festival

B is for... bands, beer and BBQs!

Now on its third time around, The Jolly Thresher proudly brings to you...The B Festival! A day packed with live bands, BBQs, bevvys and banter, it’s destined to go off with a bang!

Jollies at the Jolly

Taking place at The Jolly Thresher, Higher Lane, Lymm, WA13 0RN on Saturday 25th September, the party starts at 12 midday and lasts 'till around 11.00pm. There will be tonnes of live entertainment and music, along with DJ-ing from The O’Grady Road show, a Gend’ai Demonstration, fire dancers, local celebrities and much much more...

The Bands

You can expect a buzzing beat from the B Festival’s Band Line up! Here’s a sneaky peak at who will be featured:

The Charities

A massively successful charity event in previous years, the B Festival will this year be supporting Diabetes Research and Myeloma Research. With a fantastic £1500 raised last year for DRWF, let’s help them beat that this time and give them all the support they need to raise the money. Tickets cost just £12 for adults and £5 for children, and can only be purchased at The Jolly Thresher. With a limited supply, they’re selling fast so get down there pronto to avoid disappointment!

Lymm Festival comes to an end

The final Count down

As the saying goes, all good things come to an end, but it’s not quite over yet! It’s been a remarkable festival, blessed with some beautiful sunshine, so let’s give it an almighty send off with one more final weekend of festival fun!

Saturday 3rd July

The Festival Photographic Competition ‘L’Image’ continues with its exhibition at the Village Hall Annexe from 1.00pm to 5.00pm daily until Sunday 4th July. With some stunning shots of Lymm, get down there for your final chance to view them. Free entry and donations are welcome.

Also held at the Village Hall, the Maple Lodge Art Exhibition takes place on Saturday, starting at 10.00am and open till 4.00pm. A fine selection of art work all created by members of the Maple Lodge Art Group will be on display with many pieces for sale. With some inspiring workshops and crafts, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore your creative side. Free admission and refreshments are available.

Grab your song sheets and head to The Methodist Church Hall for an afternoon of Singing For Fun. Beginning at 2.00pm, it’s a singing sensation for everyone to enjoy featuring tons of popular hits including ABBA, the Beatles and many more. So get down there and sing your little heart out! Free entry and refreshments are available.

The Grand Draw will take place at 12 noon at Art in the Garden. There are some fantastic prizes on offer. Tickets are £1 each or £5 for a book and are on sale in various venues around the village, and at events during the Festival.

Fun at Lymm Festival

Sunday 4th July

Don’t forget to save some of your energy for the final day of the festival! Unquestionably one of our village’s most beautiful assets, Lymm Dam will be holding a full afternoon of family activities to celebrate the end of the festival and the Dam itself in all its glory. Talking Up The Trees will begin at 11:30am at the Upper Dam by the Ranger’s Cabin. Purchase your quiz sheets and trail maps before you begin on the poetry trail through the stunning picturesque surroundings of the Dam. Listen to some fantasising Story Tellings whilst taking in your magnificent surroundings and observe the new stunning Wood Carvings by Tim Burgess. After a truly enchanting afternoon, don’t forget to hand in your completed quiz sheets to The Ranger’s Cabin by 4.00pm, as the first 4 correct entries to be drawn from a hat will win book tokens. Free for all to enjoy, Quiz sheets and maps cost just £1.

Join in with an evening of celebratory hymns at the Festival Songs of Praise event held at The United Reformed Church at 6.00pm. A delightful tradition of praise and prayer, it’s a real community event welcome to everyone who wishes to come celebrate the end of the festival. Entry is free and refreshments will be available.

Finally, the closing event of the festival will be an evening bursting with talent! Stepping Out presents to you the ultimate musical sundown, with a mixed vocal group performing songs from 1925 to the 1950s. Let them swing you out of the festival in style with a combination of classic jazz, swing and other popular numbers. Presented in a cabaret style with wine, soft drinks and light refreshments. The event will take place in The Hexagon at Lymm High School and the doors will be open from 7:30pm. Tickets cost £7.50, £6.50 (conc) and all proceeds from the concert will be donated to St Rocco’s Hospice.

A final thought

It’s been a fantastic festival, which I’m sure you’ll all agree! A massive thank you goes out to all those who were involved in organising the events and on goings of these last 10days of festival fun. Its special events like these that give our village the charismatic charm that we all love and enjoy.

Singing Sensation comes to Lymm

Olivia Archbold performs at The Venue this Saturday

Singing sensation Olivia Archbold, best known for her performances on Britain’s Got Talent will be performing at The Venue on Saturday 3rd July starting at 8.00pm.

The 14 years old from Newton-le-Willows, sang a spine-tingling version of Sarah McLaughlan's- In the Arms of an Angel on Saturday night’s ITV 1 show. She has been dubbed the new "Voice of an Angel” and compared to Charlotte Church after impressing the judges on Saturday night's show.

Simon Cowell told her: ‘You sang that so well, you really made that song your own. I am so so impressed with you, Olivia, that I can’t even tell you.’

Also, there is a slight possibility that Olivia may be performing at The Venue on Tuesday at 8.30pm.

Cheap Cuts make in through to the Live and Unsigned 2010 Final

Local band deliver a top class performance in the Area Final, securing them a place in the Final of Live and Unsigned 2010.

Following on from our previous post, a huge well done goes out to Lymm’s local band Cheap Cuts for their fantastic performance at the Area Finals of Live and Unsigned 2010.

The North West England Area Final took place on Sunday 9th May at the Willows in Manchester. All the best unsigned acts from across the region performed on stage to a live audience and judging panel, with the hope of making it to the Live and Unsigned Festival at the O2 Arena in London. A day jam packed with some wicked tunes and a buzzing beat, there was bags of talent about and all the acts performed well.

Cheap Cuts wowed the judges with their amazing performance and they received some very positive feedback. Judges gave live feedback to the acts straight from the judges desk via Twitter. They tweeted that...

“Cheap Cuts had a refreshing sound to the cover and were really nice on the ear. These guys are very easy listening.”

The band’s outstanding performance has secured them a place in the National Grand Final of Live and Unsigned 2010, which will take place on Saturday 10th July. Well done lads, and we wish you all the best of luck in the Final.
