Remembrance Day 2011

World War I officially ended on the eleventh hour on the eleventh day on the eleventh month, 1918 - Armistice Day. The act of remembrance, a Two Minute Silence, began on the anniversary of Armistice Day in 1919. At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the nation paused to remember the fallen. Lymm was no exception. The village centre came to a stand still as businesses closed and local residents, one and all, paid their respects with Two Minutes Silence.

Sunday morning saw a fantastic turn out of people wanting to pay their respect. Led by members of Lymm & District Royal British Legion the procession left Davies Way car park on its way to the recently cleaned Lymm War Memorial at St Marys Church. With everyone deep in their own personal thoughts a Remembrance Day Service was held before everyone returned to the Lymm Royal British Legion where memories were shared and stories were told. The whole event was captured on camera by Joanne Bolton (a very keen amateur photographer) with some absolutely stunning photographs. Thank you Joanne for kindly sharing your wonderful images for all to see (please keep them coming). The afternoon slowly drew to a close with everyone enjoying a buffet courtesy of Lymm.com.

"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them."

Congratulations go out to two local Lymm photographers

Our congratulations go out to two local Lymm photographers, Victoria Wollerton and Chris Nixon. They were the joint winners of the recent Lymm.com photograhic competition, theme "Winter Wonderland" and are seen below sharing the £100 cash spoils. Victoria took her winning photo on a £99 Samsung point and go, bought for her as a Christmas present by her boyfriend. Having won the last photographic competition, Chris put his £100 CASH winnings towards a Canon EOS 500D. I'm sure you'll agree it was a wise investment, what a FAB photo. At this rate Chris may have to think about declaring his winnings to the tax man.

Big, big thank you goes out to all who entered

It was our most successful competition to date and a big, big thank you goes out to all who entered. A special mention should also go out to Des Hawley and Terry Offord. Their entries were absolutely fantastic and it was a really tough call to pick an outright winner. We have featured a few of the entries below and once again thank all entrants.

"Winter Wonderland" is almost behind us so, as the weather warms up and summer approaches, Lymm.com has decided to run another comp. The same rules apply, three entries per person please, and, more importantly, £100 CASH for our winning entrant. All we need is a theme so any ideas please to Lymm.com. So folks, "Thinking Caps On and Lens Caps Off"

Happy Snappin'

Sunshine and Smiles all round

Despite all the uncertainty this year, Lymm May Queen Festival went ahead and proved to be the huge success that it is every time. Hundreds of you took to the streets of the village centre to witness the action packed parade in the glorious sunshine.

The Traditional Crowning of the Queen

The ever entertaining event then headed to the May Queen field where the traditional Crowning of the Rose Queen and May Queen was performed. This year’s May Queen was Thea Field, aged 11 from Statham Primary School, whilst Rebecca Layhe, aged 10 from Cherry Tree Primary School took the Rose Queen crown.

All in all, the day was a fantastic success and a massive thank you goes out to all those who helped.
