Head chef of The Church Green in Lymm, Jim Key, has stepped up to the mark to go head to head with top Michelin starred and highly rated Good Food Guide chefs in this year’s Britain’s Best Dish.
The ITV show has returned with presenter Mary Nightingale and judges that include accomplished chef John Burton Race, food and wine expert Jilly Goolden and chef and restaurateur Ed Baines. The judges will taste main courses and desserts served from every region across the country in order to award one professional chef with the prestigious accolade of having their dish named the best dish in Britain.
Jim who works at The Church Green, which holds 3 AA rosettes, for celebrity chef Aiden Byrne, wanted to prove his worth in the kitchen on this public platform.
When asked about the show, Jim comments, “I was pretty nervous about being filmed for a TV series – I really felt like I was stepping out of my comfort zone, but when your passion takes over you soon forget about the cameras and completely immerse yourself into your dish. The standard is really high but I feel I gave it my all, I hope I’ve made the North West proud.”
Aiden comments, “Jim is a great chef and I’m really pleased to have him at The Church Green - I truly believe that Jim will go far in this process and we’re all behind him 100%. To bring this title back to the North West would be amazing and would only add to the buzz in the industry in this region.”

As well as the TV show, ITV have also published a cookery book including all the dishes that are featured in this series. Jim’s dessert recipe can be found on pages 222 and 223. Books will be available to purchase from The Church Green in the coming weeks at a reduced price of £17.
Viewers can catch Britain’s Best Dish on ITV1 every weekday at 5pm and see Jim’s debut on the 15th of December.

I am absolutely thrilled with the final result and proud of all the children who contributed.”

Remembrance Day 2011
World War I officially ended on the eleventh hour on the eleventh day on the eleventh month, 1918 - Armistice Day. The act of remembrance, a Two Minute Silence, began on the anniversary of Armistice Day in 1919. At 11am on the 11th day of the 11th month of 2011, the nation paused to remember the fallen. Lymm was no exception. The village centre came to a stand still as businesses closed and local residents, one and all, paid their respects with Two Minutes Silence.
Sunday morning saw a fantastic turn out of people wanting to pay their respect. Led by members of Lymm & District Royal British Legion the procession left Davies Way car park on its way to the recently cleaned Lymm War Memorial at St Marys Church. With everyone deep in their own personal thoughts a Remembrance Day Service was held before everyone returned to the Lymm Royal British Legion where memories were shared and stories were told. The whole event was captured on camera by Joanne Bolton (a very keen amateur photographer) with some absolutely stunning photographs. Thank you Joanne for kindly sharing your wonderful images for all to see (please keep them coming). The afternoon slowly drew to a close with everyone enjoying a buffet courtesy of Lymm.com.
"They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them."

Lymm Dam Survey
Some time ago a group of Lymm Traders Lymm Traders conducted a survey at Lymm Dam. The survey identified that a large number of visitors to the local beauty spot did not realise that the village centre lay just a few hundred yards away via "THe Dingle Steps", a lovely walk in it's own right. Our beautiful village with it's array of shops, cafes, pubs and restaurants was going undiscovered, more importantly valuable footfall and business was being lost. Lymm Parish Council were approached to see if some signage could be provided to inspire visitors to come to the village centre. The Parish Coucil suggested an arch way and the idea was born. Local councillors came up with a basic design, permission was obtained from United Utilities to install the archway on either side of the steps and local companies provided quotations.
Risley Forge
Phil Gannon of Risley Forge was contracted to manufacture and install the archway (see images below) and work commenced on the project in August. Working with the basic design Phil took a number of photographs and incorporated these images into the archway AND what a fabulous job he did. At the base of the archway you can see a heron on one side and fisherman on the other, reflecting what our beautiful lake has to offer. The centre body of the archway shows off our famous Lymm Cross and Bridgewater Canal, and the "Gold" arrow heads direct visitors through the archway and down the steps towards our village centre. The fabulous structure is topped off with the words " Village Centre " aptly written in an Olde English font.
The magnificent archway was installed by Phil and team on the 1st November for all to see and enjoy. A massive thank you Phil from all Lymm Residents, it's a great Landlmark and will be around for many years to come.

The Big Lymm Bonfire is always a great success and the firework display is really spectacular
THE Lymm and District Round Table will once again be staging the popular Big Lymm Bonfire – the village’s only charity event of its kind.
A record £5,000 was raised last year with around 1500 people attending the event held at Lymm Rugby Club on Crouchley Lane. This year’s event, sponsored by Kids Planet Day Nurseries, will again be held at the Rugby Club on Saturday 5th November with doors opening at 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm and firework display from 7pm.
“The Big Lymm Bonfire is always a great success and the firework display is really spectacular,” said Mike O’Crowley, organiser and Round Table member. “Lots of worthy local causes benefit from the proceeds and that’s all thanks to the people who come through the door.
“There’ll be loads going on again this year including children’s rides, plenty of food and drink on offer and many other stalls run by the community including the Ladies Circle. We’re also introducing additional disabled access with carers gaining free entry.
“We really hope the public will come out to support the event once again and ensure we raise even more money this year.”
Tickets will be on sale – complete with ‘Guy’ – by The Cross, Lymm, on the three weekends preceding bonfire night, and you can also pay on the door. Prices are £10 for family (up to two adults and two children), £5 for adults and £2 for children.
