The Cherry On The Cake!

Posted by Steph on Tuesday, 29 November 2011, at 11:10

On the 1st of December Cherry Tree Primary School in Lymm will be launching their school cookbook at their annual Christmas Fair.

The book entitled ‘The Big Red Juicy Cookbook’ includes almost 130 recipes written and illustrated by the pupils from the school as well as a foreword written by local celebrity chef Aiden Byrne of The Church Green.

Mrs Helen Graham, Acting Head Teacher, Cherry Tree Primary School says, “At Cherry Tree School, we are always looking for ways to celebrate the children’s creativity. The Big Red Juicy Cookbook was an ideal opportunity to allow our children to be imaginative, show off their artistic flair and also consider the healthy eating messages that we promote at our school. I am absolutely thrilled with the final result and proud of all the children who contributed.”

The book is priced at £9.50, plus postage of £1.40 if required, and is available by calling the school on T: 01925 755885, or can be purchased from The Church Green, The Terrace and Rushgreen Service Station in Lymm village or from the Cherry Tree School stall at the Dickensian Festival.

Aiden comments, “It’s great to see children getting excited about cooking and not be afraid to experiment with different flavours and textures. I would encourage people to not only buy this book for the great recipes, but to also financially support this great school.”

Record Year for Lymm Round Table

Posted by Matthew on Saturday, 16 July 2011, at 18:17

10,000 donated to local causes

THE Lymm and District Round Table has raised a record amount for charity this year with £10,000 donated to local causes.

The impressive total was raised from the proceeds of the Round Table’s main events throughout 2010/11 – the Lymm Duck Race, Big Lymm Bonfire and Burns Night – in addition to ‘Movember’, a worldwide initiative that raises vital funds and awareness for men’s health, specifically prostate cancer.

There’s a real buzz about the Lymm and District Round Table

New chairman Chris Stephens said: “All our events this year have been really well attended by the public and local businesses and traders have also provided valuable support. Combined with all the hard work our members have put in it’s no real surprise that we’ve managed to raise as much as we have.

“There’s a real buzz about the Lymm and District Round Table with a rapidly growing membership and next year promises to be better still with a few new events, such as Lymm’s first charity beer festival, added to the mix.”

The local causes to have benefited from the Round Table’s donations include Thelwall and Stockton Health Scouts, STEPS charity, Ravenbank Primary School, Wollston Playgroup and Cheshire Search and Rescue.

“We’re really grateful to everyone who got involved

“We’re really grateful to everyone who got involved this year, from the people who bought ducks, to the stall-holders who helped to ensure the crowds had a great day,” said Dave Healey, organiser and Round Table member. “We’re particularly thankful to the local businesses who managed to sponsor this year in what are difficult times.

“As a result of such generosity we’re delighted that such a huge sum of money – a record for this event – will be making its way to local charity and community groups this year.”

The winners

The winning ducks were numbers 822 (first), 396 (second) and 217 (third), with the super duck winner named as The Best of Warrington website, and corporate duck winners Sweeney Todd Barbers and Stan James bookmakers.

God may have given Angels wings . . .

. . . but to humans he gave CHOCOLATE!!!

Since research shows that 14 out of 10 individuals enjoy pudding (joke!), the Lymm Ladies felt it was necessary to introduce a new club to our society. Look out peeps, because these ladies mean Bannoffee Business...

The issue arose amongst a group of the ladies involved in the Social Group at St Mary’s Church whilst nattering over Ginger Nuts and hoovering up some HobNobs. They deliciously decided to kindly take responsibility for the people of Lymm’s nutritional intake to ensure we consume a well balanced diet with all five essential food groups. And by these finger-licking five they mean... puddings, pies, cakes, chocolate and ice-cream.

Come Feast Your Pies . . .  Oops sorry Eyes

So, THE PUDDING CLUB was born! Jam-packed with chocolate cheer and layer upon layer of laughs, the Pudding Club is a community event that will be held 3-4 times a year at Lymm Village Hall to help raise funds for different projects. The pecan-pie plan is for each event to be Seasonally based, the first of which being the Spring theme that took place on Friday 4th March.

A Luscious Lineup

Kicking off with a sugar-sweet start, the edible evening was a massive hit! With a treacle tasting turn-out of 58 people, some from as far afield as Bury and Oldham, the friendly fruitcakes had a butter-cream blast of an evening with smiles all round. Amongst the flavoursome five puddings on the Spring theme menu was a scrumptious Sticky Toffee pudding, an inviting Vanilla Pannacotta (with raspberry coulis), a ravishingly rich chocolate bread and butter pudding, a lip-smacking lemon and lime cheesecake, and finally a seasonally succulent rhubarb and ginger pudding. All the mind bogglingly mouth-watering dishes were served with a choice of either double cream or local Dunham Massey ice-cream.

The Icing on the Cake

As part of the chocolate fudge fun, the 58 dessert demolishers were asked to score the puddings on a scale of 1-5 and make suggestions for future indulgent ideas. And we are plum puddingly proud to announce the winner of The Pudding Club’s first ever event goes to... Sticky Toffee Pudding! Budding pudding youngsters Francis (age 11) and Colette (age 9) described the fit-for-a-king feast as “absolutely de-li-cious” and the winning dish will be included on next season's scrumptious menu.

A Taste Bud Teasing Thank you!

A heavenly HUUUUGE sugar-coated thank you goes out all those luscious ladies of the Pudding Club who made, presented and succulently served all the heart-pounding puddings and to all the helpers who set up the tremendously tasty scene. And finally a special thank you goes to Yvonne Cook, Clark of the Parish Council. Thanks to all her efforts in organising grants from The Big Lottery Fund it has been made possible to provide the Village Hall with a swanky new kitchen which was deliciously designed and installed by Kitchens & Bedrooms by Ben Ellaby.

Get Involved in the Gooey Chocolate Gathering

Fear not all you fig roll fanatics that missed out on the tantalising tasting session, as The Pudding Club will be making a custard cream comeback with their Summer Event. The exact date has not been set yet but if you would like to become involved in The Pudding Club please contact Jo Young (01925 759919), Vanessa Lees (01925 757471) or Sue Walton. And remember guys, if you leave with melted chocolate on your hands then you’re eating too slowly...
