Lymm Festival comes to an end

The final Count down

As the saying goes, all good things come to an end, but it’s not quite over yet! It’s been a remarkable festival, blessed with some beautiful sunshine, so let’s give it an almighty send off with one more final weekend of festival fun!

Saturday 3rd July

The Festival Photographic Competition ‘L’Image’ continues with its exhibition at the Village Hall Annexe from 1.00pm to 5.00pm daily until Sunday 4th July. With some stunning shots of Lymm, get down there for your final chance to view them. Free entry and donations are welcome.

Also held at the Village Hall, the Maple Lodge Art Exhibition takes place on Saturday, starting at 10.00am and open till 4.00pm. A fine selection of art work all created by members of the Maple Lodge Art Group will be on display with many pieces for sale. With some inspiring workshops and crafts, it’s the perfect opportunity to explore your creative side. Free admission and refreshments are available.

Grab your song sheets and head to The Methodist Church Hall for an afternoon of Singing For Fun. Beginning at 2.00pm, it’s a singing sensation for everyone to enjoy featuring tons of popular hits including ABBA, the Beatles and many more. So get down there and sing your little heart out! Free entry and refreshments are available.

The Grand Draw will take place at 12 noon at Art in the Garden. There are some fantastic prizes on offer. Tickets are £1 each or £5 for a book and are on sale in various venues around the village, and at events during the Festival.

Fun at Lymm Festival

Sunday 4th July

Don’t forget to save some of your energy for the final day of the festival! Unquestionably one of our village’s most beautiful assets, Lymm Dam will be holding a full afternoon of family activities to celebrate the end of the festival and the Dam itself in all its glory. Talking Up The Trees will begin at 11:30am at the Upper Dam by the Ranger’s Cabin. Purchase your quiz sheets and trail maps before you begin on the poetry trail through the stunning picturesque surroundings of the Dam. Listen to some fantasising Story Tellings whilst taking in your magnificent surroundings and observe the new stunning Wood Carvings by Tim Burgess. After a truly enchanting afternoon, don’t forget to hand in your completed quiz sheets to The Ranger’s Cabin by 4.00pm, as the first 4 correct entries to be drawn from a hat will win book tokens. Free for all to enjoy, Quiz sheets and maps cost just £1.

Join in with an evening of celebratory hymns at the Festival Songs of Praise event held at The United Reformed Church at 6.00pm. A delightful tradition of praise and prayer, it’s a real community event welcome to everyone who wishes to come celebrate the end of the festival. Entry is free and refreshments will be available.

Finally, the closing event of the festival will be an evening bursting with talent! Stepping Out presents to you the ultimate musical sundown, with a mixed vocal group performing songs from 1925 to the 1950s. Let them swing you out of the festival in style with a combination of classic jazz, swing and other popular numbers. Presented in a cabaret style with wine, soft drinks and light refreshments. The event will take place in The Hexagon at Lymm High School and the doors will be open from 7:30pm. Tickets cost £7.50, £6.50 (conc) and all proceeds from the concert will be donated to St Rocco’s Hospice.

A final thought

It’s been a fantastic festival, which I’m sure you’ll all agree! A massive thank you goes out to all those who were involved in organising the events and on goings of these last 10days of festival fun. Its special events like these that give our village the charismatic charm that we all love and enjoy.

Lymm Festival Continues

What more do we have in store from the festival celebrations

After kicking off to a fantastic start with the Street Fun and Food Fest, Lymm festival continues to deliver an exciting stream of events. Here’s a brief insight as to what you can expect from Sunday 27th to Tuesday 29th June.

Sunday 27th June

The Lymm Artists Exhibition continues in the Lymm Hall Annexe until Tuesday 29th so get down there to witness some truly fabulous pieces.

It’s the last chance to catch the Calligraphy Exhibition today so make sure you take a trip to the Village Hall Anexxe between 10.00am and 4.00pm to get in on the Calligraphy craze.

The Reflections Exhibition held at Edgar Art and Framing Gallery continues to wow its quests until Saturday 3rd July. Open 10.00am until 5.00pm and free entry.

Art in the Garden remains open to all who wish to wander round its beautiful setting and take in the stunning art work until Sunday 4th July. Open from 11.00am until 6.00pm with an entry fee of £2.

A popular event and now on its 5th time round, Lymm Open Gardens starts today. With the opportunity to visit some of Lymm’s most picturesque privately owned gardens of all shapes and sizes, it’s a delightful day out for all to enjoy. Gardens are open from 12:30 until 5:30pm and tickets cost £5 for adults and £1.50 for children with all the money raised going towards St Rocco’s Hospice and other charities. Refreshments will be available in many gardens also. It’s an inspiringly beautiful way to pass the time away.

This Sunday also sees the resulting work of the Chainsaw Carver Tim Burgess. Held in the orchard behind Oughtrington Community Centre, watch as Tim puts the finishing touches to his stunning new Storyteller’s Chair. Open from 12:30 until 4.00pm, admission is free.

Continue that summer feeling into the evening with the Summer Music Concert held at St Peter’s Church. Kick back with a glass of wine and some summer fruit whilst enjoying music performances by Dufay, Holst, Vaughan-Williams, Elgar and Britten along with some other delightful pieces. The concert starts at 7:30pm and tickets cost £10, £7.50 (conc.)

If it’s a show you’re after, then why not try out ‘The Men I Love’ performance by Barb Jungr at Lymm Golf Club. After receiving rave reviews all her life this show is like no other. She magnificently delivers songs from what she calls “The New American Songbook” and always proves to be an absolute delight to witness live. Tickets cost just £13.

Fun on the First day of Lymm Festival 2010

Monday 28th June

Cotebrook house will be hosting their Art and Craft Exhibition at the Day Centre from Monday 28th until Friday 2nd July. All the work has been created by the residents and admission is free. Open from 10.00am to 4.00pm.

The small local vocal group ‘Consort’ will be making a very welcomed return on Monday evening with their night of performances at Eagle Brow Methodist Church. ‘Some Enchanted Evening’ is a concert featuring music from all ages. Beginning at 7:30pm with refreshments available.

After last years success, the Young Music Makers from Lymm High School have chosen to host another evening of entertainment at St Peter’s Church. The concert will feature a variety of music and instruments performed by youngsters aged between 5 and 18. It all kicks off at 7.00pm, there will be refreshments available and tickets cost £4 with free entry for those under 18. All proceeds go to St Peter’s Church and the small charity Jessie’s Fund.

Tuesday 29th June

Author and performance poet Craig Bradley will be hosting his event of ‘That Poetry Bloke’ on Tuesday at the Children’s Centre in Lymm Library. Always a massive hit with the kids, he’s a one man band of rhythm, rhyme and movement. Starting at 4:30pm, tickets cost £2 for children and £3 for adults.

Lymm Baptist Church will be hosting an evening of entertainment with the Voice Youth Choir and Orchestra. With a variety of songs and arrangements from pieces of pop, rock, gospel and classical, it’s a fantastic evening brought to you by young musicians from local youth groups and communities. The concert starts at 7:30pm and tickets cost £7, or £4 for those aged under 14years.

The final event of Tuesday evening will be the Festival Open Mic Night at The Venue in Lymm Village centre. Now a well established weekly event, the evening features musicians and singers from all genres and ages. As an addition for the festival, you will also be able to witness performances from the recent winner of Lymm Cross Factor Talent Competition. The fun begins at 8:30pm and admission is free.

Lymm Festival has arrived!

Let the fun begin

As you may already know, Lymm Festival will begin this Thursday 24th June. The 10 day long festival is packed to the brim with a fantastic range of exciting events to enjoy. To make sure you’re kept up to date with all the goings on of the festival, Lymm.com will be giving a brief insight into what you can expect to find each day. So here’s what’s lined up for the first few days, let the fun begin!

Thursday 24th June

The festival kicks off with Lymm Street Fun and Food Fest beginning in the village centre at 6.00pm. There will be stalls set up around the Cross from a wide selection of participating food outlets in the village, all selling some delicious snacks and tasters from their menus. An additional part to the event will be the unveiling of the Big Picture created by dozens of local artists. Free for all, it’s a great opening to the festival!

The first of several showings during the festival, The Really Useless Theatre Company presents their showing of ‘The Scramblings At Spriggly Torch’ by Richard Coleman. Presented at Lymm High School at 7:30pm, tickets cost £5 each or £25 for a table of 6. Shows continue until Sunday 26th June.

Friday 25th June

Growing in popularity each year, St Werburgh’s Church hosts an evening of ‘Our Favourite Poems’. Get down to St Werburgh’s Parish Rooms at 7:30pm to hear a beautiful selection of poems and literature all chosen by members of the public. Tickets cost £5 and there will be a range of snacks and refreshments available.

Come and experience a beguiling style of dance at the Latin Dance Night with Solar Salsa. Great music, tasty tapas and lots of dancing it’s not to be missed! Beginning at 7.00pm at Lymm Golf Club, tickets cost £15.

Saturday 26th June

Come view a fantastic display of art work at the Lymm Artists Annual Summer Exhibition. The event will be open from 10.00am to 5.00pm at the Village Hall Annexe, and entry is free. With a wide range of artistic skills and media it’s an inspiring display. Most of the work will be for sale too. Part of this event will be the Calligraphy Exhibition also held at the Village Hall Annexe at 10.00am until 4.00pm. Come view some beautiful samples of calligraphy and find out the results of the handwriting competition run by local schools.

From 10.00am to 4.00pm the Manchester Bonsai Society Annual Show will be presenting a beautiful display of Bonsai Trees at the United Reform Church. There will be talks and a sales table of bonsai materials to get you started. Refreshments will be available all day. Tickets priced at £3 for adults and £2 for MBS members and concessions.

Another display of some superb work will be the Reflections Exhibition held at Edgar Art and Framing Gallery in Lymm village centre. Beginning at 10.00am and open until 5.00pm it is free to all who wish to see a stunning presentation of landscape and portrait reflection paintings by Colin Grimes.

Set in a lovely canal-side garden of a Norwegian log cabin, Art in the Garden always proves to be a massive success every year. View some outstanding work from a range national and local of artists, designers, sculptors and potters. Open from 11.00am until 6.00pm with an entry fee of £2.

Having Fun at Lymm Festival

For all you active folk, ‘Get on your Bike’ is a family fun day and teddy bear’s picnic. You can expect a massive selection of sporting activities, a best dressed bike and scooter parade, a football challenge, circus work shop and much much more. Not to mention celebrity guest appearances and special performances from local talented sing stars, it’s definitely not to be missed. Held at Grundy Park from 12noon to 4.00pm, with an entry fee of 50p.

After all the days’ excitement, why not head to St Mary’s Church and enjoy at the Brass Band Concert. The well known band ‘Co-op 2000 Brass’ will provide a lovely end to an action packed day. Starting at 7:30pm, tickets cost £10.

Lymm May Queen 2010

Sunshine and Smiles all round

Despite all the uncertainty this year, Lymm May Queen Festival went ahead and proved to be the huge success that it is every time. Hundreds of you took to the streets of the village centre to witness the action packed parade in the glorious sunshine.

The Traditional Crowning of the Queen

The ever entertaining event then headed to the May Queen field where the traditional Crowning of the Rose Queen and May Queen was performed. This year’s May Queen was Thea Field, aged 11 from Statham Primary School, whilst Rebecca Layhe, aged 10 from Cherry Tree Primary School took the Rose Queen crown.

Fairground rides and Cross Factor Finalists

Once the Crowning was complete, everyone headed for the fairground rides and stalls to continue the fun in the sunshine. And as a last minute addition to the event, some of you may have had the pleasure in witnessing the performances from our ‘Cross Factor’ Finalists! All in all, the day was a fantastic success and a massive thank you goes out to all those who helped.
