2012 It's Olympic Year

Posted by Ken on Tuesday, 13 December 2011, at 10:09

It's Also the Inaugural Lymm.com 10K!

Yes folks, it's "O-Lymm-pic" year in 2012 and the team at Lymm.com are holding the inaugural Lymm.com 10K race. It's scheduled for Sunday 15th April 2012 and Lymm High School have kindly offered the school facilities for the day. There will also be the opportunity to look at what Lymm Leisure Centre has to offer. Spectators and runners will arrive to the welcoming smell of bacon and sausage sandwiches freshly cooked by the local scout group. If you fancy something slightly different why not try the hog roast, hot dogs or BBQ. For those who fancy a bit of spice in their life there is even a touch of Thai. For lovers of fine coffee you can finish off the meal with a warming cup of "Starbucks". For the kids we will try to invite Mr Whippy.

The fun starts at 9.15am with "Wolfie" of Warrington Wolves and "Sharkie" of Sale Sharks starting the Lymm.com 1 Mile Fun Run, open to all ages (come on granddad, take the grand kids for a jog). It's a fun run NOT a race and ALL entrants will receive a Lymm.com fun run medal. The main event, limited to 750 runners, starts at 10am prompt. For the serious runners there are cash prizes up for grabs. M/F 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Male/Female veterans, 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Male/Female Teams of 4. Goody bags are planned for all runners of the main event.

If you don't know Lymm don't worry as the roads will be closed and the route will be well signed and marshalled. If you know Lymm, the race starts with a clockwise lap and a half of Lymm High School playing fields. Leaving the school on the second lap at the gate keepers lodge, turn right into Oughtrington Lane and immediately left down Longbutt Lane. At the bottom of Longbutt Lane turn left into Pepper Street, right at Grove Rise and right onto Rosebank. Along Rosebank take the second on the right and back up to Pepper Street. Turn left along Pepper Street and the bridle path emerging onto Oughtrington Lane. Turn right up Oughtrington, passing the half way mark, watering station and St Peters Church. At the junction of Longbutt Lane turn right and complete a second lap back down Longbutt Lane. Passing St Peters for the second time continue straight on, returning into the school ground at the gate keepers lodge. All that is left is half a clockwise lap around the school fields to the finishing line, a big cheer, and, an official race time "chipped" and supplied by TDL.

Girl Names New Care Home In Lymm

Posted by Ken on Tuesday, 13 December 2011, at 09:57

Unveil at Cherry Trees School

The name of the new care home on Booths Hill Road, Lymm was unveiled recently at the Cherry Trees School, Lymm as part of a naming competition with the pupils.

Receiving certificates

The students from the school, aged between 4 gathered as the winning name, Cheshire Grange and the winning pupil, Daisy Knowles, were announced to a hall full of school children that had taken part.

National care provider Barchester Healthcare, which will run the new 50 -bed care home opening June 2012 launched the competition at the school last month to name the new home. Pupils entered their suggestions in the hope of winning Cinema vouchers for their family and £100 book vouchers for their school. All those that proposed a name were rewarded with a £5 WH Smiths voucher.

Be an Angel

Winner!

Daisy had such a touching story as to why she had chosen the name. She said: "I named the home Cheshire Grange because my Grandma was called Jean Cheshire – just like our county. She lived in Lymm for a while until she became too poorly. She spent her last six months at Westvale House another Barchester Home in Warrington until she went to be an Angel in May this year." By the end of the school assembly there wasn't a dry eye in the hall!

Regional Operations Director for the newly named Barchester run care home, said: "Congratulations to Daisy or winning the naming competition and well done to all those who put lots of thought into their entries. It is such a lovely tribute to Daisy's grandma Jean and we are all quite sure that she gave Daisy the inspiration for the name."

Mike Fisher

"At Barchester we pride ourselves on building excellent relationships with our local community and our new home is no different! We hope to continue this happy association with the school who have done a fabulous job in helping us chose a name. Indeed the pupils have agreed to help us create a time capsule early next year, which we will bury in the grounds of the home."

With Mum and Dad

Some of the other entries from pupils at the school included: Redcot Manor, Cherry Lodge and even Amazing Manor.

Barchester Healthcare’s Cheshire Grange care home will open in June 2012 and will deliver high quality nursing and residential services as well as personalised dementia care in Barchester’s unique Memory Lane Community.

About Barchester Healthcare

Valentines Competition Winner

Following on from our Valentines Competition

Roses are red, Violets are blue,
That’s what they say, But it’s not really true.

Roses are red, And apples are too, But violets are violet,
Violets aren’t blue.

An orange is orange, But Greenland’s not green,
A pinky’s not pink, So what does it mean?

We call something blue, When it’s not,
we lie a bit, But hey, what the heck, It’s hard to rhyme with ‘Violet’!

A message of LOVE Can be hard to understand,
Interpretations misled, Giving results that weren’t planned.

But confusion aside, It’s all fun and games,
Identifying characters, Movies and names...

The winner of our COMPETITION After much debate,
Is one super clever cookie... Hence why this is late!

MISS BEVERLEY CONNELL, OUR ANALYSIS QUEEN!!
Identified all 11 movies, In fact, she got 13!!

So I’m sure you’ll all agree,
She’s a winner through and through! Well done Bev!
This one’s for you!!
