Saturday 28th Jan – Grappenhall Cricket Club

My name is Jodie Gould and I am currently studying a Biomedical Science Degree at Chester University. I have also signed up to climb Kilimanjaro for the amazing Charity Childreach International.

On the Saturday 28th January 2012 at 8pm I will be holding a Race Night at Grappenhall Cricket Club, Broad Lane, Warrington, WA4 3ER, in order to raise money for the charity Childreach International and would love it if you could all join me.

Line em up!!

For people that have never been to a race night it is a fun, entertaining, cheap night out.

Each race consist of 8 horses identified by numbers only and is shown just like on television with professional commentary.

Members of the audience choose their horse from the amusing names on the race cards provided and then buy a corresponding ticket from the betting desk. This is usually around £1 per bet placed.

Once the betting has finished one of the 8 films are chosen at random and played.

At the end of the race the lucky winners collect their winnings from the desk and the betting re-opens for the next race. Happy Days!!

Donations

If people are unable to attend but would still like to contribute to the charity I have also set up an online donation page where people can donate straight to, which is: available to see here

I hope you can all attend as it will be a brilliant night and is all for a good cause.

Just a quick reminder of the details its taking place at 8pm at Grappenhall Cricket Club, Broad Lane, WA4 3ER

Hope to see you all there

Jodie

Round Table Bonfire Set to Sparkle

Posted by Matthew on Friday, 28 October 2011, at 00:30

The Big Lymm Bonfire is always a great success and the firework display is really spectacular

THE Lymm and District Round Table will once again be staging the popular Big Lymm Bonfire – the village’s only charity event of its kind.

A record £5,000 was raised last year with around 1500 people attending the event held at Lymm Rugby Club on Crouchley Lane. This year’s event, sponsored by Kids Planet Day Nurseries, will again be held at the Rugby Club on Saturday 5th November with doors opening at 6pm, bonfire lit at 6.30pm and firework display from 7pm.

“The Big Lymm Bonfire is always a great success and the firework display is really spectacular,” said Mike O’Crowley, organiser and Round Table member. “Lots of worthy local causes benefit from the proceeds and that’s all thanks to the people who come through the door.

“There’ll be loads going on again this year including children’s rides, plenty of food and drink on offer and many other stalls run by the community including the Ladies Circle. We’re also introducing additional disabled access with carers gaining free entry.

“We really hope the public will come out to support the event once again and ensure we raise even more money this year.”

Tickets will be on sale – complete with ‘Guy’ – by The Cross, Lymm, on the three weekends preceding bonfire night, and you can also pay on the door. Prices are £10 for family (up to two adults and two children), £5 for adults and £2 for children.

The Round Table are also seeking sponsors for the event – for more information contact Mike on 07867 531764.

The Lymm and District Round Table is one of the most buoyant in the country with a large and enthusiastic membership and regular social and charity events planned throughout the year. For more information on the Round Table visit Lymm Round Table or contact Rik Wilson on 07766 461944 or info@lymmroundtable.co.uk

Culinary Victory for Lymm Chef

Posted by Matthew on Friday, 28 October 2011, at 00:14

Seven hour gastronomical competition that pushed some of the best chefs in the country to the limit

On the 20th of October ten chefs and their protégés went head to head in a seven hour gastronomical competition that pushed some of the best chefs in the country to the limit.

Michelin starred chef Aiden Byrne, of The Church Green in Lymm and British Grill at the Macdonald Craxton Wood Hotel in Ledsham, mentored his heat winning candidate, Rohan Nevins from the Macdonald Bath Spa Hotel, in the Visionary Dining Chef of the Year 2011 event, which effectively redrew the line in professional national chef training.

Exceptional main course of Hare wrapped in chicory and sage to the table of 150 diners

Together the pair delivered an exceptional main course of Hare wrapped in chicory and sage to the table of 150 diners at The Lakes Hotel School in Kendal. Not only did the diners enjoy the full 10 course meal, they also took part in the judging on the night, their choices were collated with 13,000 web votes that were counted throughout the duration of the event.

Aiden and Rohan secured a whopping 75% of the votes, crowning them as Visionary Mentor of the Year and Visionary Chef of the Year 2011.

Monica Galetti, from the BBC show Master Chef the Professionals, was on hand to present the chefs with their trophies. Rohan has also won a once in a lifetime trip to Joel Robuchon in Tokyo.

Aiden Comments

Aiden Byrne comments, “This event helps to raise culinary standards in the UK and encourages new blood to come forward and develop into the food stars of the future. I was confident that our dish would be well received but could never have predicted such a fantastic response from the diners.”

When asked about his protégé, Aiden says, “Rohan has been an excellent chef to mentor and the future certainly looks very bright for him.”

The event also raised £3,400 for Hospitality Action, the Hospitality Industry Benevolent Organisation.

Notes about Aiden Byrne:

Aiden Byrne was head chef at The Grill at The London Dorchester from late 2006. He was previously Tom Aiken’s head chef at his Chelsea restaurant and has worked with several other high profile chefs such as Paul Rankin and David Adlard.

In addition to Tom Aiken’s eponymous restaurant, Aiden has worked at Pied á Terre in London, Adlard’s in Norwich, Peacock Alley and the Commons in Dublin and Danesfield House in Buckinghamshire.

Most impressively, at the age of 22, Aiden became the youngest chef ever to win a Michelin star, and he carries this prestigious accolade with pride.

In 2008 he brought his remarkable menu to The Church Green in Cheshire, where he continues to serve high quality British dishes that continue to impress diners and inspire budding chefs alike. His hard work paid off and The Church Green now boasts 3 AA Rosettes. His most recent success came when approached by Macdonald Hotels to create an outstanding British Grill in the 4-star Craxton Wood Hotel in Ledsham, near Chester. He rose to the challenge and after a full refurbishment the 120-cover restaurant opened in July 2011 and achieved 2 AA Rosettes within less than 8 weeks of the opening.

Aiden has made numerous TV appearances, including Masterchef, and more recently, The Great British Menu.

Lymms very own conceptual surrealist artist Richard Cowley does it again!

Posted by Matthew on Wednesday, 19 October 2011, at 21:35

Full Lymm-London works displayed at the Holy Trinity Church opposite Golden Square

Following the success earlier this year of the Lymm-London project, artist Richard Cowley has managed to get the full Lymm-London works displayed at the Holy Trinity Church opposite Golden Square in the centre of Warrington for the next 2 weeks. Using his ingenuity he's over come a time old problem, 'How do you exhibit art works in a Grade 2* Listed church?'.

Thank you to Sponsors

The answer was simple, his exhibition floats over the pews of the church, with 22 large illuminated cubes exhibiting over 50 works of art. Although organised and delivered by Richard, he could not have achieved this massive art project without the support of both Holy Trinity Church, Warrington Borough Council and our beloved Lymm traders who have chipped in to help put on the show. Thanks to TK Bikes, Puure, DB Gardening, Edgar Art, Arches, Banner & Co., Sextons Bakery, Catyas Cadeaux, Charter Design, Collect Art, The Cheshire Set Nail Studio, Hopkinson's Of Lymm, Jolly Thresher, The Venue William H Lill & Co, The Star Inn, Natural Focus Photography, The Clothes Box, McCarthy & Stone, and not forgetting Lymm.com! So if your interested in seeing something unique and different come along to Holy Trinity Church, see the flyer for full details.
