Congratulations Chris Nixon!!
Lymm.com are pleased to announce the winner of the recent Photographic Competition, with Chris Nixon taking the £100 cash prize! “Summer Nights” was the theme for the competition, in which we feel Chris’s image of “Fishing For Supper” is a beautiful example of a summer evening in the picturesque settings of Lymm Dam.

Sunday 26th September at Lymm High School
Prepare yourself for an active day like no other! Lymm Community Sports Forum invites you to an open day at Lymm High School on Sunday 26th September from 10.00am-3.00pm.
Lymm Community Sports Forum
Formed in 2008, Lymm Community Sports Forum’s primary aim is to promote physical activity, fitness and health amongst young people. They work collectively with various local sports clubs, Lymm High School, the parish council, the leisure centre, PTA, Cheshire Army Cadets, Warrington Borough Council and Warrington School Sports Partnership (WASSP) to motivate young people to become more involved in sport and leisure activities.
The Next Big Challenge
The open day that the Forum will be holding at Lymm High School on Sunday 26th September will be a fantastic opportunity for all ages to experience some new exciting activities. All held within the school grounds, children will be able to sample a huge variety of sporting activities on offer by featured sports clubs in Lymm and the surrounding areas. The community day will allow all the fab work being done by all the local sports clubs to be showcased and attract some new budding sports people. And remember it’s not just for kids! Maybe the day is just what you need to re-ignite that passion you once had for a sport you once played.
What to Expect
All held within the school grounds, a great variety of local sports clubs will be located at various sites (please see the map) displaying what their club has to offer. Always fancied yourself as a bit of a ninja? Why not give Gendai Martial Arts ago! Or maybe you think you could be the next Freddie Flintoff and feel like trying your hands at cricket. Whatever takes your fancy, there’s something for everyone to enjoy and it’s all for free!
There will be tons of other stuff there too. Challenge yourself to the blow up assault course set up by the Cheshire Army Cadets! Or test your climbing skills on their climbing wall. Keep a look out for Wolfie from Warrington Wolves, Sharky from Sale Sharks and W.A.S.S.P’s very own Zip and Zap the troublesome wasp twins as well! They’ll be around providing lots of entertainment no doubt. There will be food laid out by the PTA and St John’s Ambulance and various other sports therapists will be present on the day too.
Get involved!
Don’t forget the whole event is open to anyone and it’s all completely free. Come dressed appropriately for sporting activities and on your arrival head to the Leisure Centre Entrance where you will be directed to the “Indoor Activities and Club room” on the map. View a timetable for the day’s events or alternatively download a copy from Lymm.com. Enjoy!!!

Fantastic weather, outstanding hospitality, and a well organised itinerary in the Loire Valley
It’s been yet another successful summer for Lymm’s Twin Town Society. Almost 60 Twin Towners visited Meung-sur-Loire in June, the small village near Orleans that Lymm has been twinned with for over 40 years. The visit by both long-term and recent new members was hailed a wonderful success on both sides of the channel. Friendships spanning decades were reinforced and new links were forged between young families new to the society. The visit combined fantastic weather, outstanding hospitality, a well organised itinerary in the Loire Valley involving vineyards, wine cellars, restaurants, chateaux and parks; and culminated with an official reception lunch and entertainment.
The annual summer BBQ
Then, later that month, numbers almost tripled at the annual summer BBQ with the welcome participation of over 25 new young families. The sun shone down on Moss Brow Farm in Warburton as an astounding 198 people were welcomed into superb grounds to enjoy a plentiful BBQ spread, an afternoon full of fun for the kids and relaxation for parents as they looked upon a field of kids games, obstacle races and a rather competitive Dad’s ‘Tir à la Corde’ (Tug of War).
Since their Noel Arrive Christmas event, the society has been working hard to extend the profile of its membership by organising events appealing to young families including a Treasure Hunt, a French evening at a local French restaurant and the summer BBQ. In just six months, several new young families have already been welcomed as members, paving the way for further word-of-mouth interest.
Upcoming Events
With further social events planned this year to include two further dinners (23 Sept and 13 Nov), a Beaujolais Nouveau evening (18 Nov) and Noel Arrive (19 Dec), the society seems set to be undergoing a veritable renaissance. All great news since the planning is already underway to welcome many more French families June 1-5 next year.
Events and Joining Membership Form
If you are interested in France, French culture or language, please email Lymm Twin Town to obtain more details about the society, membership and events, or visit Lymm Twin Town Website. Also, check out our listing here on lymm.com for the dates of all of our current events. And for those interested in hosting a visiting French family in June, registrations are now being taken so that a match family can be sought in time so download and return a membership form.
