Local band deliver a top class performance in the Area Final, securing them a place in the Final of Live and Unsigned 2010.

Following on from our previous post, a huge well done goes out to Lymm’s local band Cheap Cuts for their fantastic performance at the Area Finals of Live and Unsigned 2010.

The North West England Area Final took place on Sunday 9th May at the Willows in Manchester. All the best unsigned acts from across the region performed on stage to a live audience and judging panel, with the hope of making it to the Live and Unsigned Festival at the O2 Arena in London. A day jam packed with some wicked tunes and a buzzing beat, there was bags of talent about and all the acts performed well.

Cheap Cuts wowed the judges with their amazing performance and they received some very positive feedback. Judges gave live feedback to the acts straight from the judges desk via Twitter. They tweeted that...

“Cheap Cuts had a refreshing sound to the cover and were really nice on the ear. These guys are very easy listening.”

The band’s outstanding performance has secured them a place in the National Grand Final of Live and Unsigned 2010, which will take place on Saturday 10th July. Well done lads, and we wish you all the best of luck in the Final.

The Rotary Club of Lymm Presents... An Evening of Popular Classical Music

Posted by Laura on Thursday, 13 May 2010, at 20:38

Starring Martin Toal, Craig Owen and Louise Taylor. All in aid of The Christie Hospital.

Saturday 8th May

Third time around and the Rotary Club’s evening of Classical Music was every bit the success it always is each year. The Bridgewater Hall hosted the fantastic evening which sold over 1100 tickets all in the aid of Christies Hospital. Filled with an array of popular classical music, the night saw some very talented youngsters and professionals alike.

Our Young and Aspiring Musicians

The objective of the evening was to provide an enjoyable experience where our young budding musicians could show of their flair for music. With solo performances from a selection of pupils from Lymm High School’s Young Musicians Group, Lymm High School Brass Band, Loreto Girls Junior Choir, June Rendell Academy of Dance, Stockport Youth Orchestra and Liverpool Signing Choir, it was a spectacular evening filled with bags of talent. A huge well done goes out to all those who performed at the event and provided some amazing entertainment.

The Three Soloists

All three soloists did remarkably well and delivered some astounding performances. Classically trained soprano Louise Taylor performed at the opening of the night with pianist John Gough. Beginning as an amateur 23 years ago, Louise has now performed over 30 leading roles in operetta, Gilbert and Sullivan and modern musicals for operatic societies in Greater Manchester and Cheshire. She sings regularly with a six-piece band and enjoys performing anything from sacred music to favourites from the last decade.

The solo violinist performance by Craig Owen, accompanied by the Craig Owen Band provided a stunning act. Having performed at events all over the world it was an honour to have him play at the Bridgewater Hall. Craig enjoys applying his musical talents to concerts, corporate event and weddings and has collaborated with numerous musical stars from around the UK and Europe. With a No.1 single in the UK Classical Chart and three albums already released, he plans to release his fourth in the summer of 2010.

And finally, Manchester Tenor Martin Toal delivered an astounding performance at the event. Having performed with some of Europe’s top artists, he’s one of the UK’s most in demand singers for concerts, sporting, corporate and charity events. Particularly celebrated amongst sports fans, Martin has sung the National Anthem at several football and rugby stadiums across the UK. He has also performed at some fantastic events for some top names in sport including Sir Alex Ferguson and Fabio Capello from football, and England rugby heroes Jonny Wilkinson, Jason Robinson and Lawrence Dallagio. Known as “England’s Winning Tenor”, England football team has won without conceding a single goal every game Martin has sung the national anthem at before kickoff.

A fantastic evening all round, a huge thank you and well done goes out to all those who attended, performed and help support the event. Neville Davies did a great job and a big thank you goes out to all for helping raise vital funds and awareness for The Christies Hospital.
