Race Night – Charity Fund Raiser

Posted by Matthew on Friday, 27 January 2012, at 19:01

Saturday 28th Jan – Grappenhall Cricket Club

My name is Jodie Gould and I am currently studying a Biomedical Science Degree at Chester University. I have also signed up to climb Kilimanjaro for the amazing Charity Childreach International.

On the Saturday 28th January 2012 at 8pm I will be holding a Race Night at Grappenhall Cricket Club, Broad Lane, Warrington, WA4 3ER, in order to raise money for the charity Childreach International and would love it if you could all join me.

Line em up!!

For people that have never been to a race night it is a fun, entertaining, cheap night out.

Each race consist of 8 horses identified by numbers only and is shown just like on television with professional commentary.

Members of the audience choose their horse from the amusing names on the race cards provided and then buy a corresponding ticket from the betting desk. This is usually around £1 per bet placed.

Once the betting has finished one of the 8 films are chosen at random and played.

At the end of the race the lucky winners collect their winnings from the desk and the betting re-opens for the next race. Happy Days!!

Donations

If people are unable to attend but would still like to contribute to the charity I have also set up an online donation page where people can donate straight to, which is: available to see here

I hope you can all attend as it will be a brilliant night and is all for a good cause.

Just a quick reminder of the details its taking place at 8pm at Grappenhall Cricket Club, Broad Lane, WA4 3ER

Hope to see you all there

Jodie

Be My Valentine Ball

Posted by Laura on Sunday, 15 January 2012, at 11:22

Friday 10th February Statham Lodge

Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
That’s what they say,
But it’s not really true.

Roses are red,
And apples are too,
But violets are violet,
Violets aren’t blue.

An orange is orange,
But Greenland’s not green,
A pinky’s not pink,
So what does it mean?

We call something blue,
When it’s not, we lie a bit,
But hey, what the heck,
It’s hard to rhyme with ‘Violet’!

A message of LOVE
Can be hard to understand,
Leaving you head in the clouds,
And your feet not on land.

But confusion aside,
It’s all fun and games,
Love brings its Challenges,
Goals and aims...

A Mountain climb,
For a Charity cause,
To reach a snowy peak,
The help I need is yours!

To raise the funds,
So I can tackle this beast,
We’re organising a Ball,
With live music and a feast!

The venues booked,
The date is set,
Friday 10th Feb,
Statham Lodge’s biggest LOVE event yet!

Dudes think dapper,
Girlies think glam,
Bring all you friends,
Your dad, your sis, your mam!

A Killer Kili evening,
To keep Cupid on his toes,
Where the night may take us,
Only him & his bow knows ;)

So please help to raise funds,
At my Valentines Do,
£25 a ticket,
Not much for a smooch or two ;)

Kilimanjaro for Kids

My Charity Challenge

Laura Chambers

I believe in fate, superstitions and that laughter is the best medicine. I also believe in angels, good men and other fantasy creatures. The only one I’m going to reflect on here though is fate. I’ve always thought that everything happens for a reason, and whatever does happen is your destiny!

So I’d been having one of them days where you feel a bit lost and don’t know what to do with your life, when a friend texted me.... She was telling me about some Charity Climb she’d signed up for. Reading this at God know what time in the morning after the way I’d been feeling all day I thought what the hell, I’m gonna do it too! Be it fate, fortune or karma, or maybe just my tired and vulnerable state at that time in the morning, I’d signed myself up for what is probably going to my biggest challenge yet!

Killer Kili Facts, uhoh...

At a massive 19,340 feet Kilimanjaro is the tallest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the World! This mammoth mountain is made up of three volcanoes and supports 5 major eco-zones, these being rainforest, heath, moorland, alpine desert and glaciers. So the Rooftop of Africa’s sizzling savannah is a snow-capped peak?! This bad boy is BIIIIIIIG!!!

Childreach International

The Charity who I’ll be doing the climb for is Childreach International. They are a UK registered grass roots charity that has worked with over 70,000 children in the past year alone. They work in genuine partnership with local communities in the developing world to help improve children’s access to healthcare, education, child rights and protection. They operate on their own projects and support partner's projects in Tanzania, India, Nepal, Occupied Palestinian Territories, Pakistan, Peru, Cambodia, China and Bangladesh.

Pounds to the Peak

So the first step to the Kili for Kids Challenge is raising the dollar for the trip! A minimum £3000 needs to be raised, over half of which will go directly to Childreach International projects around the World! Below is a link to my BT My Donate page which is one way in which we can help to raise the funds. Any donation, no matter how big or small, is MASSIVELY appreciated! It’s only through your help that we can make this all possible. Thanks so much everyone!!

Lymm Head Chef Competes in ITV’s Britain's Best Dish

Posted by Steph on Thursday, 15 December 2011, at 14:35

Head chef of The Church Green in Lymm, Jim Key, has stepped up to the mark to go head to head with top Michelin starred and highly rated Good Food Guide chefs in this year’s Britain’s Best Dish.

The ITV show has returned with presenter Mary Nightingale and judges that include accomplished chef John Burton Race, food and wine expert Jilly Goolden and chef and restaurateur Ed Baines. The judges will taste main courses and desserts served from every region across the country in order to award one professional chef with the prestigious accolade of having their dish named the best dish in Britain.

Jim who works at The Church Green, which holds 3 AA rosettes, for celebrity chef Aiden Byrne, wanted to prove his worth in the kitchen on this public platform.

When asked about the show, Jim comments, “I was pretty nervous about being filmed for a TV series – I really felt like I was stepping out of my comfort zone, but when your passion takes over you soon forget about the cameras and completely immerse yourself into your dish. The standard is really high but I feel I gave it my all, I hope I’ve made the North West proud.”

Aiden comments, “Jim is a great chef and I’m really pleased to have him at The Church Green - I truly believe that Jim will go far in this process and we’re all behind him 100%. To bring this title back to the North West would be amazing and would only add to the buzz in the industry in this region.”

As well as the TV show, ITV have also published a cookery book including all the dishes that are featured in this series. Jim’s dessert recipe can be found on pages 222 and 223. Books will be available to purchase from The Church Green in the coming weeks at a reduced price of £17.

Viewers can catch Britain’s Best Dish on ITV1 every weekday at 5pm and see Jim’s debut on the 15th of December.
